The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. We wish to appoint a Professor or Associate Professor in a field related to environmental and planetary health to provide intellectual leadership and help drive the development of this strategically important area of research at LSHTM. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated researcher with a strong track record and expertise in environmental epidemiology and/or evaluation of the health impacts of climate change and environmental policies. 

Candidates for the position of Professor must have established expertise and a strong research portfolio in environmental epidemiology, planetary health research, and/or environmental policy and evaluation. 

For the position of Associate Professor, candidates are required to have expertise in environmental epidemiology, planetary health research, and/or environmental policy and evaluation. For either post, potential areas of research include: weather (heat & cold), climate change, air pollution and other environmental stressors, as well as innovative methodologies for understanding and exploring environmental and planetary health.  

Either post offers an exceptional opportunity to develop a dynamic team working on major challenges of global relevance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity provide research leadership in environment and health, to develop an innovative research portfolio, forge cross-disciplinary collaborations within world-leading LSHTM Centres and through international networks, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching on environmental and planetary health within the renowned MSc programmes of LSHTM. The post is full-time, 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and permanent. The post is available from 1 October 2023.

The salary will be on the Academic, Grade 8 scale (Associate Professor) in the range of £60,221 - £69,118 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting); or Professorial scale (C, Bii & Bi) in the range of Grade £69,254 - £109,794 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
