At the University of Cambridge, achieving excellence in teaching and research is fundamental to everything we do. We are continually looking for new ways to capitalise on opportunities that allow us to explore new research priorities, whilst providing a creative and supportive environment in which ideas are generated and can flourish. The Schools of the Physical Sciences and of Technology have a combined research income from UKRI and other UK Government funders of c. £100M/y. The two Schools have now created a Joint Schools' research facilitation team, with the aim of increasing the research income to the two Schools. The team is led by the newly appointed Director of Research Relations, and to which this role is an important member.

About the Role:

We seek to appoint a Research Facilitator to support both the Deputy Head of School of Technology (Research and Strategy) and the Joint Schools' research facilitation team.

Within this role, you will:

Take on responsibility for various research related operational and policy tasks in the School of Technology, such as supporting the key committees (Research Committee, the Ethics Committee etc.) and leading on School-level co-ordination work (Seed fund applications, Restricted Call applications etc.);

Design and analyse research management data, and lead on the School's research website; and

Provide operational support for the Schools of Physical Sciences and Technology with the aim of increasing research grant income to both Schools.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

A track record of working as an administrator with the necessary communication and coordination skills to support the research co-ordination and facilitation in the School.

Be a highly motivated person, with excellent project management skills and ideally with knowledge of the research environment including funding, ethics and accessibility of research outcomes in the HE Sector.

Experience of designing and managing effective systems and processes, along with excellent IT skills and proficiency in writing, formatting and presenting reports based on a variety of data sources.

Used to working across different groups and be able to communicate and engage effectively with all stakeholders including academics, departmental research support administrators, the University central Research Office and others.

Comfortable managing a varied workload which will also on occasion include other tasks appropriate to the role. 

Previous experience of managing a research grant (desirable).
