Business Continuity and Resilience Advisor

Contract: Full-time, permanent.

Salary: Grade 8 £37,386 - £43,155 per annum including USS pension benefits

Location: The post holder will be required to work at both Singleton and Bay campus locations.

The Health, Safety and Resilience (HS&R) team is part of the wider Estates and Campus Services directorate. Providing Health, Safety, Business Continuity & Resilience services to the wider university, including the development of policy and procedures, provision of general and specialist advice and guidance, planning, training and information.

The appointment of a Business Continuity and Resilience Advisor reflects the University’s commitment to the attainment of recognised Health, Safety and Resilience Management Systems, that reflect strong leadership, continual improvement, and a sensible risk management approach.

Broadly, this University role will;

  • work with the HS&R team, University colleagues and other stakeholders to support, develop and implement the University business continuity and emergency management systems and associated documentation.
  • Provide advice, guidance, training and support to Faculties and Professional Service Units (PSUs) in areas of responsibility and expertise.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of emergency management arrangements and support the University’s Incident Management Team (IMT) as required.

Essential criteria

Qualification:

  • Degree / diploma in relevant discipline or significant demonstrable and relevant experience.
  • Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) or prepared to work towards it.

Experience:

  • Experience of working and advising on business continuity, risk and emergency management in a large matrix organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing incident response and emergency management systems and procedures
  • Demonstrable experience in undertaking audits and inspections
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing and delivering management reports at a senior level.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and awareness of the requirements of ISO 22301: 2019
  • Proven ability to influence at a senior level
  • Proven ability to adopt sensible risk management practice
  • Good face to face and written communication skills.
  • A good standard of computer literacy to include good competencies in Microsoft Office programmes and relevant technical software.

Welsh Language:

  • Level 1 – ‘a little’ (you do not need to be able to speak any Welsh to apply for this role) e.g. pronounce Welsh words, place names, department names. Able to answer the phone in Welsh (good morning / afternoon). Able to use of learn very basic every-day words and phrases (thank you, please, excuse me). Level 1 can be reached by completing a one-hour training course.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Membership of a suitable professional organisation e.g., Associate, Member or Fellow of Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency management
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
