The University of Bath is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and enthusiastic Student Casework Manager to lead and coordinate a small team within the Student Policy & Safeguarding unit. 

Student safeguarding can mean two things: a formal statutory Safeguarding response, or a more general response to promote a safe, inclusive environment where students thrive. The Student Casework Manager will have oversight of the student casework policies and practices within the department including Student Complaints, Fitness to Study, Fitness to Practise and Precautionary Measures, that promote this safe, inclusive environment, whilst ensuring an appropriate statutory safeguarding response where necessary.  As the lead of the Student Casework team, you will support the University’s strategic pillar to foster an outstanding and inclusive and community. 

You will be joining a supportive unit, driven by improving the experiences of all students at the University. Your work will be integral to the success of the team and the services that we deliver.  

You will support the Student Policy and Safeguarding Unit by providing efficient, effective oversight of policies and procedures designed to promote equity and excellence in the Student Experience. Your work will include:

  • Management and application of the University’s student casework policies and related procedures, including Student Complaints, Fitness to Study, Fitness to Practise and Precautionary Measures
  • Ongoing development of student safeguarding policies including institution wide training, to promote a safe, inclusive environment where students thrive
  • Management of responses to Freedom of Information requests across Student Policy & Safeguarding

You will work proactively and sensitively to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders designed to improve the student experience by identifying opportunities, leading casework and influencing decision making. 

To be considered for this position you will be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and people management skills including the ability to manage risk and provide expert advice around students experiencing casework procedures. Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity, dignity and respect of all students and staff will be integral to the role. You will need to be highly organised, self-motivated, and proactive. You will be overseeing student casework policies and procedures, with a small team carrying out the administration of these procedures.  

This role sits within the Student Policy and Safeguarding Unit which is part of the Student Support & Safeguarding Department. There are three teams within this unit:

1) Policy and Projects 

2) Student Conduct 

3) Student Casework 

This role will lead the Student Casework team, reporting to Head of Student Policy & Safeguarding. You will manage a small team, with direct line management responsibility for one person.  

This is a part time role working 18.25 hours per week (0.5FTE) on a fixed term basis until 31/10/2023.
