This is a part-time 3-day-per-week position, including senior in charge work as required, supporting Engineering, Computing and Mathematics students. The role is part of our highly regarded currently Wheatley-based Technology, Design and Environment Academic Liaison Librarian support (the role will move to the Headington campus in due course as part of Oxford Brookes’ One Campus Vision). Responsibilities whilst at Wheatley include duties as below and supporting Library Assistants on site as the senior in charge as required. The candidate will need to be educated to first or postgraduate degree level in library and information studies, with excellent communication and information retrieval skills. You will be responsible for contributing to the development and delivery of a range of services and activities to support teaching, learning, research, collection management and consultancy activities. You will need to be a enthusiastic and creative team player with excellent teaching skills.
Duties to include:
- dealing proactively with the information/ resource needs of academic staff and students
- dealing effectively with in-depth student enquiries and research support
- teaching information literacy sessions to students
- delivering training to students and staff on relevant library databases and systems
- improving pedagogical methods through shared practice and benchmarking
- the creation of e-learning material to further embed information literacy across the curriculum
- supporting the development of Academic Liaison services through participation in projects.
You should have the following:
- a professional qualification in librarianship or information science
- familiarity with databases and other information sources
- highly developed customer service and interpersonal skills
- good training and presentation skills on a one-to-one and group basis
- a flexible and positive attitude in response to changes in organisational needs.
