The Role


The School of Psychology at Newcastle University is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, full-time member of staff to contribute to our undergraduate teaching provision. We welcome applications from all disciplines of Psychology.

The post is open ended.

Key Accountabilities

  • To undertake teaching, module leadership, and supervision of research projects of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Psychology
  • To act as a personal tutor to a group of students
  • To contribute to administrative duties, course planning, and curriculum development as deemed necessary
  • To contribute to the promotion of psychology programmes and student recruitment (e.g. via Open Days)
  • To undertake other duties, such as participation in School, Faculty and University meetings, as detailed by the Head of School

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

  • Specialist knowledge in one or more areas of psychology relevant to our UG programmes
  • Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of BPS-accredited Psychology programmes
  • Ability to lead and contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision
  • Understanding of the processes to conduct and disseminate scientific research, including knowledge of how to make research open, reproducible, robust, and ethical
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders (including academic and non-academic audiences)
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills
  • Experience of leadership and citizenship roles commensurate with career stage
  • Experience of supervising and/or mentoring early career researcher commensurate with career stage

Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology or related discipline.

 Desirable

  • Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent experience e.g. Fellowship of the HEA (FHEA).
