Applicants are invited for a part-time Research Fellow to join a team exploring issues related to socket comfort for individuals with lower limb amputations.  This is a qualitative project exploring the views and perspectives of both prosthetic users and healthcare professionals on comfort and communication issues surrounding prosthetic socket fittings.  

The project is based in the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Southampton.  The project aims to use a combination of online and in-person data collection methods and therefore some working from home would be possible with a flexible working pattern. 

The 0.4 WTE post (i.e., 2 days a week) is a fixed term position, that will start on the 1st October  2023 for a fixed term of 17 months.  

About you: 

We welcome applicants who have some knowledge of qualitative research methods and an interest in amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation.  It is essential that candidate have good communication skills, can work well within a team, and are highly organised. Willingness to work flexibly to achieve project demands will be needed.  

Those newer to research are welcomed to apply as a passion for the topic area and a willingness to gain qualitative research skills is also important.   For example, those with clinical research and new to research, you will be supported by a strong research team. 

Key tasks will include:

  • Arranging data collection 
  • Carry out semi-structured interviews 
  • Data management 
  • Contributing to data analysis 
  • Contributing to publishing and disseminating the research findings 

You will be joining an established and driven multidisciplinary research team (i.e., People Powered Prosthetics), who are passionate and committed to improve lives, prosthetic limbs, and rehabilitation of anyone effected by limb loss.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
