The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the award-winning Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PeaceRep) team at the University of Edinburgh Law School. PeaceRep is an international research consortium exploring issues related to peace and transition processes in a changing conflict landscape. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (or will soon be awarded one) in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, Sociology, or a similar field, and will be working on issues related to peace processes, transitions from conflict, and related matters. They will also have a keen interest and experience in quantitative research, particularly as it relates to peace processes and mediation efforts in ongoing armed conflict. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the PeaceRep research agenda and to support research management within the team.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering flexible working patterns.  We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.  

This is a fixed term post, from Spring 2024 to 31 March 2026. 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • A PhD (or soon to be awarded a PhD) in Political Science, International Law, Sociology, International Relations, or a related discipline. 
  • A strong track record of research publications commensurate with career stage.
  • A high level of technical and theoretical knowledge in your current subject area.
  • Excellent time management, team-working, problem solving and organisational skills, and a willingness to support the management of the PeaceRep data production and related outputs.
  • Experience in cross-national, comparative quantitative research and research design, and in collecting and analysing quantitative data in social sciences.
