Job Summary
Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century.
To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.
The UK DRI Care Research & Technology centre (CR&T) based at Imperial with close collaboration with Surrey, brings together a diverse team of doctors, engineers and scientists who together can harness recent advances in artificial intelligence, engineering, robotics and sleep science to create new technologies that will deliver the highest quality dementia care in the home. Researchers are investigating new ways to keep people independent in their homes, improve their general health and sleep, and reduce confusion and agitation. Their work is guided by people with dementia and their caregivers, focusing on issues that cause the most problems.
The UK DRI Care Research and Technology centre at Imperial is seeking to appoint an experienced Scientific Project Manager to assist the Director, Prof David Sharp, and the Centre and Research Commercialisation Manager, Danielle Wilson with the strategic coordination of the projects and initiatives within the Centre as a whole.
Duties & responsibilities
The Scientific Project Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of systems within CR&T to ensure projects are planned, monitored, and tracked. You will work with the CR&T Management team and across the Centre with the six group leaders and their teams to ensure the smooth running of their work packages.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to devise, plan and execute cross Centre work packages, diligently supporting the teams, managing external agencies and consultants whilst overseeing milestones, budgets and writing reports.
You will also provide the Director with comprehensive administrative and management support. You will have responsibility for ensuring close monitoring of activities for their strategic management, regular reporting of research outcomes, and supporting efforts to maximize their impact. You will also work closely with the Centre and Research Commercialisation Manager to fulfil these objectives.
