Job context
This role is based within an established Business and Partnerships team that is part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. The primary purpose of the role is to maintain the process and reporting standards for the IUK-funded KTP programme and project management for IUK-awarded KTPs to Queen Mary. The post holder will provide specialist project management support and will introduce, standardise and enhance economies of repetition in the execution of KTP projects ensuring consistent delivery quality.
The role will be crucial in providing support to Queen Mary’s researchers and the Business Development Managers who are responsible for developing Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) with industry and Innovate UK (IUK). The post-holder will work closely with the Business Development Managers, academic PIs and administrative staff internally and with a range of business sectors and industries as well as the public and third sectors externally. Effective communication and relationship management across multiple and varied stakeholders is a key requirement of this role.
Reporting to the Business Development Managers and managing multiple KTP projects, the post-holder will be required to interact and work cooperatively with the wider Professional Services team to ensure to ensure high-quality project management support for our internal and external clients.
Job purpose
This is a client facing role and the post-holder will be responsible for the management of multiple Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects across Queen Mary. This includes working with academic staff to support and manage the effective and timely delivery and reporting of multiple KTP projects. The post-holder will manage business and academic relationships creating repeat business opportunities for the Business Development Managers to support delivery of Queen Mary’s strategic objectives for Knowledge Exchange (KE) via KTPs. The ideal candidate will take a pro-active approach to problem solving and risk management, whilst tracking progress and supervising project teams to ensure the achievement of individual project milestones.
A proven track record on every aspect of the project lifecycle including initiating projects, recruiting, planning, scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, delegating, managing and risk mitigating is essential for this role, along with excellent negotiation, organisational and interpersonal skills. A strong focus will be placed on understanding and meeting the needs of a diverse customer base, communication, teamwork, monitoring progress, as well as continuous improvements in services efficiency.
