The role

This is an exciting oportunity to join a highly regarded academic group in the University of Bristol to deliver teaching to our brilliant students.

The role holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching, assessment, and dissertation supervision within the Finance Group at the undergraduate and MSc levels. The main areas of interest are asset pricing and data science for finance, although the candidate may also support teaching in corporate finance and banking.

The Finance Group is part of the University of Bristol Business School. Faculty members publish in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. The Group comprises three research clusters: Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, and Banking.

What will you be doing?

As a Teaching Associate in Finance, you’ll play a vital role in shaping an exceptional learning experience for our students and contributing to the ongoing success of the School. Your work will span teaching, student support, and curriculum innovation, including:

  • Inspiring teaching and learning — delivering and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate lectures, tutorials, and seminars in Finance and related areas.
  • Student guidance and mentoring — acting as a personal tutor and supervisor, supporting students’ academic progress and wellbeing, and guiding UG/MSc dissertation projects.
  • Assessment and feedback — marking coursework and exams, and ensuring fair, constructive feedback that helps students reach their potential.
  • Curriculum innovation — contributing to the enhancement and development of programmes in line with the School’s strategic ambitions.
  • Academic citizenship — participating actively in School meetings, committees, and events, and taking on administrative responsibilities that support effective programme delivery.
  • Leadership and programme support — supporting or leading the administration and coordination of Finance degree programmes, including course development, student welfare, and liaison with external examiners.

You should apply if

For You are completing or have completed a PhD in a related field (PhD in Finance desirable) and have a solid grasp of corporate finance, asset pricing, and banking.

You enjoy quantitative analysis, communicate ideas clearly, and have a strong commitment to teaching and student support.

Candidates with strong programming skills (particularly in Python) and experience in teaching asset pricing or financial econometrics are especially encouraged to apply.
