The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) is excited to invite applications for a one-year Senior Degree Committee Administrator position. This key role within the School's professional services team provides crucial support to the School's leadership as they guide the strategic direction of the School. Working in the School Office you will be able to contribute to the full range of activities across the School but with a particular focus on postgraduate education.
The SAH Degree Committee (DC) is the responsible body for managing the admission of students, progress of current students, examination processes and award of research degrees. The DC currently oversees the expanding postgraduate educational programmes at the Institute for Technology and Humanity (ITH), including MPhil, MSt and PhD courses. The role-holder will work closely with the growing postgraduate team within ITH, coordinating processes and providing support, guidance and procedural advice on postgraduate admissions, individual student issues and other DC business.
As Senior Degree Committee Administrator, you will play an integral part in supporting several important School committees and governance projects, including preparing papers, agendas, and minutes, as well as providing high-quality administrative support. You will serve as Secretary for the School DC and the Interdisciplinary Education Committee (IEC), as well as supporting the work of other School Committees. The postholder will take the lead in all SAH DC and IEC matters, ensuring that all business is correctly processed and deciding what matters should be considered formally by both committees, and advising the Chair of accordingly. The role-holder will also conduct a review of postgraduate administration across the School and contribute to other postgraduate administration and funding activities in the School Office as required.
The ideal candidate will have strong administrative experience, which will include supporting committees and other governance in HEIs and knowledge of and experience in supporting postgraduate education. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to both work independently and coordinate/supervise across a wider team are essential for success in this role.
