The Department of Typography & Graphic Communication seeks to appoint an outstanding Lecturer to join our vibrant, discipline-leading academic community known globally for its research and teaching excellence.

This post is to undertake teaching and administration in the Department – the role holder will be actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, and administration in a variety of academic capacities.

Working under the direction of the Head of Department and Department Directors of Teaching and Learning you will deliver teaching of the highest quality across a range of modules and levels and set, mark and assess student coursework submissions, providing timely and useful feedback.

You will be expected to develop your teaching methods, materials and assessment techniques, recognising cultural, equality and diversity challenges and complying with quality standards and regulations, and to keep your teaching up to date by applying knowledge gained from relevant research and scholarship.

In addition to teaching the role will involve undertaking and disseminating pedagogic research and engaging with educational and teaching development issues with relevant committees and working groups across the University.

Administrative duties could include leadership roles, participation in committees and working groups, and contributions to promotion and recruitment activities.  

This is a great opportunity for someone with a background/interest in the craft-based aspects of graphic design who is keen to develop this expertise and share it with others.

You will have:

  • An MA or equivalent professional experience in a design discipline.
  • Ability to teach editorial design projects at UG and PGT levels.
  • Professional experience in graphic communication.
  • Knowledge of historical and theoretical aspects of typography & graphic communication.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
