Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking an ambitious Senior Lecturer to join the Manchester Fashion Institute at an exciting time of growth and investment. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced academic to lead world-class research at the intersection of fashion/apparel and sport while contributing to an innovative and future-focused educational environment.

We are looking for a researcher whose expertise sits within areas such as performance apparel, smart textiles, wearable technology, functional product design, materials innovation, technical product development or the business of fashion and sport. We welcome applications from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds, provided your research has the potential to advance innovation in fashion and sports-related apparel.

About the Role

As a Senior Lecturer, you will play a leading role in delivering Manchester Metropolitan University's Research and Education Strategy, contributing to our Road to 2030 ambitions through internationally recognised research, excellent teaching and academic leadership.

You will be expected to develop a strong programme of externally funded research, produce high-quality outputs, supervise postgraduate researchers and build productive collaborations with industry and academic partners. A key aspect of the role will be leading the University's growing research activity in smart apparel and e-textiles, working across disciplines to develop innovative solutions with real-world impact.

You will collaborate with colleagues across the Manchester Fashion Institute, the Institute of Sport, Manchester Met Business School and external partners to strengthen our multidisciplinary research community.

Alongside your research, you will contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, curriculum innovation and the delivery of an outstanding student experience.

About You

You will be an established academic with:

  • A developing international research profile in fashion, apparel, sport or a related discipline.
  • Expertise in areas such as wearable technology, sensing systems, human-centred design, smart textiles, materials technology, functional apparel, product innovation or related fields.
  • A track record of producing internationally recognised research outputs.
  • Experience of securing, or strong potential to secure, external research funding.
  • Experience of developing successful collaborations with academic, industry or public sector partners.
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding research-informed teaching and postgraduate supervision.
  • The ability to contribute positively to an inclusive academic culture and support the development of colleagues and students.
