About the role
Working in the Tutorial and Admissions Office at Newnham College, Cambridge, the Admissions Co-ordinator is responsible for the smooth running of the undergraduate admissions process at the College and makes significant contributions to its wide-ranging outreach programme. Working with the Admissions Tutors, Directors of Studies and line-managing the Schools Liaison and Outreach officer, this role manages a complex annual admissions cycle. Often the first point of contact for teachers, parents and applicants, this role provides information, advice and guidance, evaluates processes and procedures, and contributes to future admissions strategy.
Starting on 3 January 2022, this is a full-time, permanent post, working 37.5 hours a week. Some flexibility is required at the busier points in the admissions cycle and will involve working on the occasional weekend. The salary is paid at point 41 of the University’s single salary spine, currently £33,309 per annum. The College offers contributory membership of the USS pension scheme. Holiday entitlement is 33 days per year (inclusive of bank holidays), and there are a range of additional benefits, including a free meal when on duty, free car parking where available and use of the College’s gym facilities.
You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have substantial and demonstrable experience of working in University Admissions, higher education or with young people. Employing a professional and positive approach, you will be adept at building strong working relationships with teachers and schools and have the ability to understand the issues from their perspective in order to provide effective support. You will also be adept at managing contacts with prospective applicants and their supporters, providing accurate and timely guidance. You will have a wider interest in Higher Education in the UK and in contributing to the development of Admissions policy and processes.
