The Centre for Open Learning is looking for someone to join their small (but busy!) communications and marketing team. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively to design and deliver rolling student communications strategies across all of our programmes with the aim of supporting recruitment and conversion and creating an informed and engaged student community. They’ll also be able to take those skills and apply them to supporting the delivery of COL’s internal communication strategy with the aim of creating an informed, engaged and connected colleague community.

The Opportunity:

What sets COL apart from the wider University of Edinburgh is our variety of programmes. Therefore this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications and marketing professional to get to know our diverse audience and work across a number of programmes and projects.

If successful, you will be joining a friendly, creative and driven team to design, develop and deliver external communication strategies for all COL programmes that support agreed priorities and aim to increase recruitment, conversion and engagement. As part of this you’ll work with colleagues from across the Centre to define priorities and provide strategic advice. You’ll write tailored and engaging copy and work with your immediate team to ensure it lands through the right channels.

You’ll also get the opportunity to support the Marketing and Communications manager to maintain and implement the internal communications strategy for COL with the aim of creating an informed, engaged and connected colleague community that prioritises dignity, respect, health and wellbeing.

Across both external and internal communications you’ll review your campaigns, report on effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement. You’ll use tools such as MailChimp and SharePoint and have the chance to get involved in events, social media, design and web editing. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent level qualifications plus a broad experience acquired through a combination of job related training and considerable on-the-job experience OR a degree plus a considerable work experience in a communications or marketing-related role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • A strong sense of what makes ‘great customer service’ and proven track record of stakeholder relationship management
  • Experience of working with MailChimp or similar e-communications tools as well as a graphic design tool such as In-Design, Canva or similar
  • Organised with a proven ability to plan and manage own work priorities, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative in achieving results/delivering work
