NERC UKRI is looking to appoint a Business Analytics and MI lead who will be responsible for the development of rigorous and complex data analyses of NERC’s grant funding investments, partnerships and community engagements that inform strategic and operational decision-making across NERC’s Head Office directorates.

You will be part of the Business Management team, that has technical and management expertise in the areas of reporting, operational planning and collaborative working. You will provide analytical thought-leadership and subject-matter expertise in data analytics and will lead the development of analytical models and dashboard-based reports to support functional and thematic teams across NERC Head Office with repeatable and regularised information, data and visualisation to support management and decision-making. Often working to tight deadlines, you will ensure that quality assurance is met in translating and communicating evidence-based information effectively in a range of areas including requests from UKRI Central Data, Parliamentary Questions on thematic research investments, and Equality diversity inclusion statistics. As data steward, you will lead for NERC to verify that NERC data is included in the UKRI single source of information, identify gaps and find appropria te solutions. You will manage activities and resources in data analyses and reporting and engage effectively with st akeholders and other teams doing business management functions across the organisation

You will need:

Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Highly numerate relevant degree (or equivalent experience in an analytical field) in a subject science, technology, engineering or mathematics discipline (STEM); or where data analyses and methodological approaches form a fundamental part of understanding the topic area such as environmental science, economics, social sciences
  • Experience in using business analysis techniques to support strategic and operational decision-making and meet reporting requirements
  • Ability to engage with senior stakeholders to identify user and business needs, support the development of business requirements and processes, and offer viable solutions
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills to uncover and synthesize connections that may not always be so clear and excellent presentation sk ills with the ability to explain technical information to a broad audience
  • Ability to work at pace taking initiative, working independently and making decisions autonomously, anticipating emerging risks and opportunities, balanced with good judgement to identify issues which require escalation

Technical Skills:

  • Proven track record in applying skills in data analytics, methodological approaches and reporting tools e.g. Alteryx, Tableau, Excel, and experience of programme languages such as SQL, R, Python
  • Highly competent in Data Visualisation and Business Intelligence tools and being able to tell a compelling story with data
  • Demonstrable technical skills across a range of systems including, but not exclusive to:
    • Microsoft products
    • SharePoint
    • Oracle
