Lectureship in Clinical Anatomy

University College Cork - iED Hub and Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience

This post is being recruited as part of UCC Futures- Future Medicines

UCC Futures - Future Medicines combines a multidisciplinary team of renowned world leading scientists, engineers and clinician investigators at University College Cork and affiliated hospitals to deliver high-impact, transformational, next generation medicines and medical technologies.

It leverages the expertise and infrastructure across multiple Schools in UCC’s College of Medicine & Health, in addition to UCC Research Centres and Institutes including APC Microbiome Ireland and our flagship Tyndall National Institute.   This unique translational environment will become a magnet for small & medium enterprise and multi-national corporation investment in the region particularly across the biopharma, healthcare and medtech sectors. 

UCC Futures - Future Medicines is creating step-change advancements in earlier detection, faster prognosis and targeted treatments to reduce the global health burden and improve quality-of-life for patients with chronic conditions, such as cancer, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, and inflammatory diseases.  

UCC wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy to support the development and delivery of iEd Hub courses. Medically trained doctors are particularly welcome to apply. This Lecture post is directly connected to and funded through Pillar 3 of the Human Capital Initiative (HCI). Reporting to the Head of the iEd Hub and the Head of Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, the Lecturer will be affiliated with UCC’s Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. The iEd Hub is a consortium led by University College Cork and includes Munster Technological University and multiple enterprise partners in the Medtech/Biopharma sector. The funding awarded under HCI enables the consortium to develop a novel, agile educational platform to produce next generation graduates for the Health Technology industry sector in Ireland.

The successful appointee will have demonstrated potential to work within a team in the iEd Hub tasked with the development and delivery of a suite of industry-focused teaching programmes, contributing significantly to iEd Hub operations in association with industry partners in the MedTech sector. The successful candidate will be involved in lecturing specifically on Anatomy and disease processes relevant to Medical Device technology to students on iEd and/or Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience programmes.

The successful appointee will be a qualified medical doctor (MB, BCh, BAO or equivalent) and/or hold an academic qualification to PhD/Doctorate level in a relevant discipline. 

The successful candidate will also possess the ambition and capability to undertake and publish high-quality, impactful, and internationally competitive research in translational medicine. Research within the Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience is multidisciplinary in nature (www.ucc.ie/en/anatomy/research/). This strategy, aided by substantial institutional and external grant support, has empowered high-impact collaborations between academic staff, clinicians and technologists, that have surmounted traditional boundaries to not only accelerate innovation and discovery, but also to translate this transformative research to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (above the bar): €71,178 - €92,180 (Scale B) / €67,721 - €87,570 (Scale A).

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy
