Background

This position is for a postgraduate research fellow to work within the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) theme Infection and Acute Care research programme. The post is part of the expanding Birmingham Acute Care Research Group, a multi-disciplinary team of clinical and discovery scientists working in the field of acute medicine and infections within the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing. The candidate will create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of research activities, focusing on immune cell function, inflammation and infections.

Person Specification

  • First degree in immunology, biochemistry, biology or a related subject and normally, a higher degree (or near to completion) relevant to research area of immunology and infections or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to peers, supervisors and members of the public/ patients
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones such as human tissue models, assays of cell function, flow cytometry, cell energetics analysis, single cell multiomic analysis – although relevant tratingin will be available.
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively 
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project against timelines and deliverables.
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
