Join an exciting interdisciplinary research team developing and embedding digital tools and methods across the arts and humanities, including Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAMS) and Heritage Sites. 

This contract is fixed term for 1-year, working towards the development of a new National Training Centre in this area and is ideally suited for a candidate with strong technical skills. 

The successful candidate will join the AHRC-funded project A Roadmap for a National Training Centre on Multidimensional Digital Media in the Arts and Humanities (Feb 2023-January 2024). This project aims to upskill the Arts and Humanities community in data management of multidimensional data, including 2D images, 3D models and 4D datasets generated through digitisation and creative processes, such as 3D scanning/modelling, video, photography and other types of imaging. The successful candidate will contribute to the project activities, in particular, they will design, use existing/further develop, and test suitable web-based infrastructure for training including online-learning platforms, web-based collaborative platforms and content management systems. The specific details of the infrastructure will be selected once we know user requirements, but we envisaged the skills involved in their installation and support will be independent of the platform selected.

In order to be successful in this role you will need:

  • A good (1 or 2:1) BSc degree in Computer Science, or a related technical subject.
  • In-depth knowledge of programming in various web-oriented languages and frameworks demonstrated by a portfolio of websites, in particular JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Node.JS and React.
  • In-depth knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS), such as WordPress.
  • In-depth knowledge of CPanel server and site management platform, including the ability to manage a website, logs, terminal and other tools for managing a web server.
  • Good knowledge of learning technologies and platforms, such as Moodle, or plugins for CMS which allow for instructors sharing materials/assessments and students enrolling and progressing.
