The role
We are looking for a savvy, self-motivated, and practical web editor to join our friendly and supportive marketing, communications, and content department. As part of the Directorate of Marketing, Communications and Content, the department manages all our online content, guarding our visual brand identity and reputation, and work closely with both the professional services and academic departments. The department also plays an essential part in achieving the university’s recruitment and other institutional targets.
This position reports into the Digital and Content Manager and covers both the website and intranet. This is not a front-end or back-end developer role. You will ensure that our web pages, and particularly our course pages, are kept up-to-date, accessible and follow best-practice in writing for the web and search engine optimisation. You will support colleagues to ensure that content updates are delivered on time and that all web stakeholders are enthusiastically owning and maintaining their content.
The role also includes maintenance of our BBC archive, so knowledge of using AWS cloud storage and video file compression is desirable.
The role requires writing and sub-editing experience, working with stakeholders to create webpages, providing web analytics, monitoring and improving the website’s accessibility and UX, SEO, working within style guidelines, trouble-shooting and problem solving. Organisational, collaborative and time management skills are a must.
The candidate
Our ideal candidate will be proactive and have a ‘can-do’ attitude. They will also have experience of working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. They will have experience and be comfortable with website tools that improve accessibility, conversion, and provide analytics.
They’ll be highly organised, have strong time management skills and able to deal with multiple projects and stakeholders. This role needs an excellent communicator with an ability to keep an overview of overall goals, priorities and the bigger picture. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to build effective working relationships with staff, the team, and 3rd parties is key. They’ll be a proactive problem solver who can contribute to the continuous improvement and creation of processes and working practises.
