The Post
The University of Stirling has a vacancy for a Network Specialist subject matter expert. Working within a team of four Network Specialists, the successful candidate will be responsible for the support, deployment and maintenance of the Campus Network (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi) and System Security infrastructure.
The University of Stirling data network provides wired and 802.11ac wireless connectivity for students and staff across main campus and off-campus student residences in Stirling and Bridge of Allan. The campus network currently follows the traditional 3-tier design consisting of approximately 550 network switches and 2,500 wireless access points. We are currently in the process of migrating towards a Cisco SNA architecture which will be implemented during 2023.
Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Development Team Leader (Networking), the successful candidate will be responsible for work on multiple ongoing Network improvement projects and tracking and resolving all assigned support requests with a high level of technical competency bringing a range of experience from numerous IT disciplines.
The role requires the Network Specialist to ensure that the LAN/WAN can provide the required services by supporting the network infrastructure through the use of troubleshooting, monitoring and problem resolution in a production environment and ultimately enhancing User experience.
Network security will be an important duty of the role. The successful candidate will help implement secure network access protocols and then monitor, evaluate and resolve issues. Good documentation and record keeping skills are essential.
