About the Role
We are seeking an experienced medical statistician to provide statistical oversight of studies for Barts Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) and strategic leadership to expand our trials research programme. Statistical oversight will include writing collaborative grants, trial design, planning and performing analysis, writing trial reports and publications, supervision of statisticians and helping ensure high quality research. Strategic leadership will include contributing to senior scientific management, fostering local, national and international collaborations, developing trial methodology and capacity building. Capacity building activities include training trial statisticians and staff, courses, PhD supervision, contributing to relevant research networks, supporting research fellows and the education of university students.
Centre for Evaluation and Methods (CEM) has a thriving research portfolio across two UKCRC registered trials units: Barts CTU and the Pragmatic CTU, a Methodology Research Unit and a Health Economic and Policy Research Unit. We have strong statistical expertise in risk modelling and stratification, cluster and stepped-wedge design and would particularly welcome applications from statisticians interested in efficient design and/or digital health to complement and strengthen our skill set. With recent investment in Barts CTU and trials infrastructure at QMUL, this post would suit a statistician intending to grow a research team to provide trial support.
About You
The successful candidate will have a PhD in medical statistics, or equivalent professional experience, a proven track-record of high-quality research at a national and ideally international level, and experience of developing, securing and managing research grants. Experience in the design and analysis of clinical trials, teaching and assessment at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, mentoring and developing staff and PhD students.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
The post is based at the Charterhouse Square/Whitechapel Campuses in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of early 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £58,949 - £65,823 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
