The Kar lab at the Early Cancer Institute in the Department of Oncology is looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral or master's level researcher with a strong quantitative background and statistical programming skills to join a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship-funded project. As a Research Assistant/Associate in Computational Genetics/Genomic Data Science you will play a vital role in the design, analysis and dissemination of genome-wide association and Mendelian randomisation studies that systematically generate comprehensive maps of the relationships between cancer-relevant exposures or risk factors and a wide range of somatic or tumour molecular traits such as gene expression, driver gene mutations, and mutational signatures.
You will apply your data science/statistical expertise and computational skills to analyse some of the largest integrated germline genetics and somatic multi-omics data sets of relevance to cancer currently available, working on a project that aims to use these data to provide fresh insights for cancer prevention, early detection, and therapeutics. You will:
Prior experience in the analysis of large data sets in any field, coding skills in R or Python, attention to detail, and eagerness and ability to learn new bioinformatic tools and epidemiological/biological concepts are important for success in the role. Previous experience in genetics or genomics research would be a major asset but is not strictly essential.
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to contact Dr Siddhartha Kar (sk718@cam.ac.uk) directly when considering an application to discuss the post and the project in greater detail.
