Introduction:

Founded in 2003, ICON College of Technology and Management is a private higher education institution adjacent to the City of London and around 1400 students including in BSc/BA (Hons) degree courses. The College recently signed a partnership agreement with Bishop Grosseteste University for a period of five years to deliver BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care.

Job description:

The lecturers of Health and Social Care will deliver a high standard of teaching and learning across a range of courses as required by the Programme Manager of Health and Social Care Department. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Teaching Health and Social Care courses as allocated by the Programme Manager
  • Delivering learning experiences that are engaging, challenging and informed by pedagogical scholarship and professional practice.
  • Demonstrating effective teaching and professional practice as measured by student feedback, assessment outcomes and success, peer review and external validation.
  • Assessing students’ coursework
  • Supporting students through the pastoral or advisory role.
  • Carrying out administrative tasks related to the department, such as admissions interviews, induction programmes and involvement in committees and boards.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development including a range of delivery techniques and the promotion of learning, professional practice and research. 

Additional responsibilities and involvement will include: 

Membership of different College committees, together with membership of such other groups as shall be required/deemed appropriate from time to time. 

Person Specification 

Essential requirements:

  • Ideally, a minimum of 2 years experience of teaching Health and Social Care related courses at postgraduate, undergraduate or HND level at UK higher education institutions  
  • At least an MSc degree in Health and Social Care related discipline    
  • Working knowledge of the health and social care industry with relevant experience in one of the following: Health and social care; Nursing; Mental health; or Youth and community work 
  • Substantive knowledge and experience in teaching qualitative and quantitative research methods 
  • Ability to contextualise research methods for health and social care subject 
  • Ability to teach research methods and supervise dissertations at level 6 
  • Flexibility approach to work and availability of working on the College premises 
  • Ability to work well with students from various backgrounds 
  • Knowledge of the policy context of quality management in higher education and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for a range of internal and external audiences.   
  • Applicant must have the right to work in the UK (the College is unable to provide a work permit)   

Desirable requirements:

  • Familiarity with the independent higher education sector in the UK.
  • Experience of curriculum development and quality assurance procedures
  • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures in Higher Education 

Benefits:

The College will offer a competitive salary in the range of £43501.00 – 45,911.00, depending on qualifications and prior experience.  In addition, there will be 33 days holiday (including 8 bank holidays) per annum. During Christmas time, staff can either take three days holiday or have tasks assigned by their line manager. A range of work-life balance opportunities and family-friendly negotiated working arrangements are available. A 5-8% private pension contribution may also be made by the College.
