Location: Buckingham
Salary: £31,587
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 24th May 2023
Closes: 4th June 2023

SALARY & HOURS: Equivalent of £31,587 per annum full-time (35 hours per week). This role is an 8-month fixed-term contract covering a maternity leave. It will commence at the start of July 2023 and run till early March 2024. The role is full-time but requests for part-time and hybrid working will be considered.

The Corporate and Professional Services departments are the cornerstone of the University. They provide essential and valuable support to both each other and the Academic departments, helping the University to function in the most efficient and productive way, ensuring that the students’ experience is second to none.

About you and the role

Are you passionate about helping students to gain meaningful work experience? Would you enjoy managing recruitment processes and coordinating work placements? Are you a confident networker who can develop and manage professional relationships with employers? If so, this role is a great opportunity to operate the University of Buckingham’s flagship micro-internship scheme (B-Enterprising) and to support academic teams with offering in-curriculum work placements for students.

As a key member of the University’s Careers and Employability Service, you will:

  • be the main point of contact for students and employers looking to participate in micro-internships and placements;
  • establish and manage relationships with employers, including start-ups, charities and SMEs, in order to generate a pipeline of suitable micro-internship projects;
  • promote the benefits of participating in the micro-internship scheme to students;
  • collaborate with academic colleagues who are operating in-curriculum placements to ensure a smooth pre-placement experience for both students and employers, including providing guidance to students in their search for a placement.

We are looking for someone with exceptional communication, organisational and project management skills who will approach this role with drive and enthusiasm. You will be part of a small and friendly team based at our Buckingham campus and will have some flexibility to work remotely and/or part-time. You may occasionally attend networking events or assist at University Open Days which take place outside of normal office hours.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience working in the higher education sector in work placement management and/or employer engagement would be an advantage (but is not essential).
  • Experience of managing and delivering projects through to completion.
  • Impeccable communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and client management.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and workloads efficiently.
  • Exceptional organisational and IT skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work flexibly under pressure to tight deadlines.

For further details, please refer to the Person Specification in the job description. We are invested in our people and their development, so we encourage you to apply if you believe you have most of the skills and experience required and are keen to develop further!

Informal enquiries may be made to Beth Baker (Head of Careers, Employability and Alumni Relations) at beth.baker@buckingham.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 4th June 2023.

Please note: if successful, any offer is subject to standard checks, including qualifications, eligibility to work in the UK on a permanent basis and DBS (if applicable).
