The Faculty Research Fellowship scheme aims to provide outstanding scientists, who have the potential to become leaders in their chosen field, with the opportunity to build an independent research career.

The Psychology Department at the University of Sheffield is among the largest in the UK and has been consistently ranked as one of the outstanding research departments in all seven UK Research Assessment Exercises to date. Over 90% of our department’s research was classed as internationally excellent or world leading in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. Our excellence in research spans the discipline and we have highly active groups under the broad headings of social and health psychology, behavioural science, human development and cognition, neuroscience and computational modelling, and clinical psychology.

The successful Fellow will work closely with established researchers who are producing world-leading outputs and will have access to our state-of-the-art facilities including newly refurbished behavioural research suite, comprising dedicated space for infancy research, EEG, TMS, TES, fNIRS, motion-capture, virtual reality and eye-tracking methodologies. We have strong links with multiple local NHS-services providing access to a range of clinical populations. The department of Psychology collaborates closely with University Flagship Institutes, including the Neuroscience Institute, the Healthy Lifespan Institute and the Institute for Sustainable Food. The Fellow will be expected to drive and lead their own research programme, while being mentored and supported by senior staff within the department. There will also be opportunities for the Fellow to contribute to existing research programmes within the department and University Flagships as aligned with their interests and expertise. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative and collegiate department that provides strong support and mentorship to early career researchers.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
