About the role

About Us

The Careers and Employment team are available to support all students with their Careers Learning throughout their programme and for three years after graduation. The Careers and Employability Service aim to open doors for everyone, enabling work ready graduates in securing high skilled graduate outcomes including enterprise, new business start-up and post graduate opportunities. 

The Careers and Employment Team promise to provide expertise for employability, graduate outcomes, and labour market insight, through consultancy and delivery in partnership with learning and teaching colleagues, supporting University of Derby students with their Careers Learning throughout their programme and for three years after graduation. 

The impact you will have

You will join the University of Derby Careers and Employment Service (CES) and work with us to advise students and graduates on developing high quality applications, performing at their best at interviews and assessment centres as well as improving understanding of the local and national labour market. You will also work with others to build and develop successful relationships with our students and recent graduates and work with members of the CES team and academic staff to increase graduate outcomes for University of Derby students.

  • A background in careers guidance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • The ability to work well as part of a team with a willingness to help others as required.
  • Excellent customer service skills

What you can expect from us

Working with the Careers and Employment team as a Careers Advisor you can gain experience to progress your career with us as a Careers Coach working with students and academics. Alternatively, you can work with Employer Engagement colleagues working with our employer stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to work on employability projects such as the On-Campus internship scheme, the work experience scheme, the Placement Academy, the Futures Award, and the Student Employment Agency. We encourage all our staff to develop professionally, whatever their role, and there is a range of university and national training available as well as national careers and employability conferences.

The role is part time - 30 hours per week. We can offer you a friendly and supportive working environment, hybrid-working and a competitive salary.
