About the role
We are seeking an Open Access and Repository Assistant to join the Open Access Collections Team within the Bodleian Libraries, working to support Open Access at Oxford, whilst supporting the maintenance and development of the Oxford OA Payments system and Oxford University Research Archive (ORA).
The postholder will be primarily responsible for processing funding applications for academic outputs. For some open access pathways, a fee must be paid. This fee is referred to as an Article Processing Charge (APC) or a Book Processing Charge (BPC). The Open Access Collections Team, within the Bodleian Libraries, is responsible for the administration of APCs and BPCs, and the compliance checks and corrections for these outputs. A secondary aspect of the role will be reviewing material deposited to ORA by Oxford academics. This post provides a great opportunity to transfer the “traditional” bibliographic skills of cataloguing and authority control to the newer and still-developing area of research output data management.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position, working 36.5 hours per week for one year from the start date of the successful candidate.
About You
The postholder will be computer literate as duties will primarily focus on processing applications for funded research, dealing with the processing and payment of invoices and enhancing the metadata for ORA deposits to maximise the interaction and engagement with the research content.
The postholder will ensure that a deposit or output complies with copyright, compliance and other regulations affecting the dissemination of the work. When required, the role may require production of reports and statistics, so good attention to detail is crucial.
Good interpersonal and communication skills are important as there will be regular contact with academics, publishers and various other stakeholders, to advise on policy, process and other related queries. This will occur via a range of communication channels and helpdesks. The postholder will assist authors with payment applications or depositing their work to ORA, and understand their responsibilities with regards to policies affecting research publications.
The varied nature of the role means that being able to work independently and part of a team are essential.
