About the School of Art and Creative Industries
The School of Art and Creative Industries is a pioneering educational partnership that has recently marked its bicentenary, celebrating 200 years. With origins tracing back to 1825, the school of art is the oldest in England outside of London. We are a vibrant, collaborative community where creativity thrives and transcend traditional boundaries between art, design and screen disciplines.
BA Fashion is an established course with an ever-growing reputation for excellent graduates. The Fashion Programme practices in the tradition of creative art school processes expecting our students to develop experimental and conceptual work responding to society, art and fashion culture suitable for industry. Our students select between two pathways: Design or Communication.
The Communication pathway focuses on visual and creative skills, encouraging students to experiment across a varied range of topics from fashion photography/filmmaking and styling to fashion branding, events and public relations. The Design pathway encourages creative practice with conceptual thinking, sketching, experimental designing and 3D making skills. Both pathways are underpinned by access to strong resourcing and digital skills for industry.
Contextual Studies is embedded throughout the programme and across both pathways, ensuring students tap into essential critical thinking assisting the development of studio practice and creative outcomes.
High profile collaborations and competitions are an intrinsic part of the programme alongside a wide range of placements within the fashion sector.
The MA Fashion Innovation is a platform for home and international students to realise their own ambitions in a highly creative interdisciplinary environment. The breadth of the programme encompasses both fashion design and communication leading on and diversifying to a range of disciplines within the fashion umbrella.
What were looking for
We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Teaching Fellow to join our Fashion programme and play a key role in shaping the future of Fashion Communication and Contextual Studies.
In this unique role, your teaching will be split across the two areas of Fashion Communication and Contextual Studies.
You will contribute to the organisation, delivery, and assessment of elements of the BA Fashion Programme, ensuring students gain the practical and theoretical knowledge they need to thrive in the industry. Alongside teaching, you will have the opportunity to engage in research and pedagogic activity, keeping your practice informed by current scholarship and industry developments.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong academic background and practical expertise in Fashion Communication, supported by a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience. You will have experience teaching at undergraduate level or delivering professional training in creative studio environments, and the ability to teach both Fashion Communication/Promotion and Contextual Studies across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Your approach should reflect an awareness of global fashion culture and incorporate decolonisation in practice. Alongside teaching, you will contribute to curriculum development and ensure the effective delivery of modules, while engaging in high-quality pedagogic and scholarly activity that demonstrates a deep understanding of contemporary, global fashion markets.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with proven experience in Fashion Communication/Promotion and delivering Contextual Studies at Higher Education level. You will bring a strong creative background; whether in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, or a related discipline, and a commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience.
