Aberystwyth University is seeking to appoint a University Secretary who will operating at the highest level within the University.The University Secretary is primarily responsible for providing authoritative guidance to the University Council, Senate and their committees in matters involving compliance with and the operation of governance powers, policies and procedures; the efficient conduct of governance business and continuous improvement of governance practice. The University Secretary will also have accountability and oversight of health and safety, business continuity planning, and the management of other compliance matters relating to information governance, and also relationships with the University’s legal advisers.
The University Secretary shall be mindful of the various reporting lines as part of the post. The role holder shall be responsible solely to the Council, reporting directly to the Chair of Council, in relation to governing body business. Equally, the successful candidate shall report to the Vice-Chancellor in relation to Senate business; and to the Chairs of any sub-committees which the University Secretary services.The post holder shall be line managed by the Vice Chancellor, who shall ensure that the University Secretary can discharge his / her duties with the required independence.
The successful candidate will also need to be able to demonstrate previous experience of managing and leading a team and the ability to be able to work collaboratively to deadlines. They are expected to have the gravitas required to give full confidence to the University Council and senior colleagues in the University.
The successful candidate will be required to have excellent written and spoken Welsh and English (C2).
