About the role

We are looking for a Workforce Development Manager to join the Clinical Research Network (CRN) in the West of England, providing strategic leadership and direction of the delivery of workforce development and intelligence across the region.

The CRN West of England funds or part-funds over 800 staff working in health and care research, many of whom are embedded in one of seven NHS trusts. As well as supporting research delivery and management staff across primary and secondary care, public health and social care, we also facilitate the development of those leading research, such as Chief and Principal Investigators, and promote research awareness for clinical staff and members of the public.

This role will include elements of:

  • Learning and development: leading on the strategic and operational delivery of a range of learning initiatives throughout the learning and development cycle. This will be the significant focus of the role.
  • Workforce intelligence: collecting and making sense of data to support with learning needs analysis and learning evaluation, and to inform strategic workforce planning.
  • Organisational development: supporting OD initiatives, including those relating to staff wellbeing, culture, engagement, leadership, and equality, diversity and inclusion. 

About the Clinical Research Network

The NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) coordinates and supports the delivery of health and care research in the NHS and the wider health and social care environment, and supports patients, the public, and health and care organisations across England to participate in high-quality research, thereby advancing knowledge and improving care.

In 2020/21, 74,537 participants took part in one of 401 CRN research studies across the West of England. This has included contributions to life-saving Covid-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.
