This is a fixed term appointment of 3 years

The research grants officer role is a vital part of supporting the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa’s research programme. The Institute is committed to promoting independent academic research and teaching; open and issue-oriented debate; and evidence-based policy making across LSE. The Institute accomplishes this by connecting different social science disciplines and by working in partnership with Africa bringing African voices to the global debate. The research grants officer role acts as the first point of contact for the research programme at the Institute and coordinates the smooth running of the research projects focused on the African continent.

Working closely with the Institute’s management team, the post holder will be responsible for the administration of the Institute’ research grants programme to ensure the research projects meet their research milestones on time, within scope and within budget. Additionally, the post holder will organise research events such as workshops and seminars and stakeholder meetings. Furthermore, the post holder will work closely with Research and Innovation to ensure all grant expenses are processed accurately and within School guidelines and Research Council policies. The post holder will also provide assistance with external grant reporting, internal Institute reporting and research dissemination activities.

Candidates should possess strong numeracy skills, have excellent attention to detail, and have experience of managing project or grant budgets. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex information into simple prose and be able to build relationships with a wide variety of internal and external partners. An interest in research focused on the African continent would be considered an asset.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
