The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable, and self-motivated skilled engineer to provide technical support to the Mechanical Services Machine shop.
The successful applicant should have experience in machining and manufacturing parts using a variety of machine tools. The post holder will also be responsible for providing technical advice, instruction and support to academic and research staff and students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. You will be proficient in the safe operation and use of a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with design, fitting, and assembly skills.
The role supports a variety of interesting projects from student automotive race teams including electric powered vehicles and our electric motorcycle team, as well as providing both technical and manufacturing support to our various research laboratories. In addition, the postholder may be called upon to provide instruction to our undergraduates in the safe operation of conventional lathes and milling machines in our student workshop.
Applicants should have ideally served a recognised toolroom / technician / mechanical engineering apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering machine shop or toolroom environment using both CNC and conventional machine tools and associated equipment.
Knowledge and experience of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and CNC machine tool programming would be an advantage, but training will be available if necessary to develop these skills. Fabricating and welding skills would be advantageous.

The role is a full time (36.5 hours) position and is based on campus. Hybrid or home working is not applicable to this position, however, we can consider flexible working if appropriate.
