Job Summary

The candidate will deliver the resilience modelling of critical infrastructure assets of the RISKADAPT project (HORIZON-MISS-2021-CLIMA-02): Asset-level modelling of risks in the face of climate-induced extreme events and adaptation RISKADAPT will provide, in close cooperation with the end-users & stakeholders, a novel, integrated, modular, interoperable, public and free, customizable user-friendly platform, to support systemic, risk-informed decisions regarding adaptation to climate change induced compound events at the asset level, focusing on the structural system. RISKADAPT will explicitly model dependencies between infrastructures, which, inter alia, will provide a better understanding of the nexus between climate hazards and social vulnerabilities and resilience.

Person Specification

  • The candidate will hold a PhD Degree in Engineering or similar.
  • The postdoctoral researcher will have expertise in some of the following areas:
    • fragility, risk, reliability and resilience modelling, the impact of corrosion and floods on critical infrastructure (bridges, transport and/or energy) use of monitoring/ remote sensing and digital technologies (eg UAV mapping, GIS, BIM, digital twins) and forensics in interdependent infrastructure, multihazard scenarios (e.g. flood, geohazards and climate projections), Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), CO2 emissions of infrastructure development and network analysis.
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
