Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining research and teaching practice. The National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) is the leading centre for teaching production and research in computer animation and digital effects. In 2011 BU was awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for the NCCA's 'World Class' teaching.

The NCCA is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow who will work with specialists at Bournemouth University to deliver techniques and solutions related to “DTNT: Integrating Natural Interaction and Digital Twins into XR (extended reality) Clinic Environment to Enhance Nurse Training”. The DTNT will investigate the use of Digital Twins (DTs) which can replicate physical clinic environment to improve the nurse training experience. Its primary focus has been to offer clinic experience in a virtual ward for student nurses, where they could communicate with their tutors seamlessly. A tutor can demonstrate related clinical skills and decision-making processes in either a real physical space (a ward or simulation room) or a virtual one, and trainees can join in a XR setup (DTs).

Related research experience in computer graphics, computer vision, virtual reality and human computer interactions are beneficial to carry the proposed research works. DTNT’s challenge relates to interaction of three cross-disciplinary but complementary research subjects, which are computer graphics; computer vision; and human computer interaction. For example, the 3D reconstruction and modelling of the physical clinic ward or simulation room, virtual patient modelling and animation, human computer interaction between trainees and virtual patient, multiple participants (trainees and tutors) interaction in virtual world.
