We are looking to appoint an exceptional person to join the new Research IT Hub, delivering, developing and supporting research focused infrastructure and applications. The role holder will support, administer and aid in the development of research focused software, applications, databases and supporting systems. They will liaise with the network and security teams to ensure a secure and robust service delivery.

St George’s, University of London (SGUL) is a healthcare university and conducts world-leading research in infection and vaccines, cardiology, neuroscience, genetics, public health and more.

The role holder will play a key role in liaising with research staff and will plan, test and implement projects and aid in performing research database validation and operational software upgrades.

Software is mostly implemented in PHP and MySQL and the relevant candidate should possess a good understanding of OOP principals.

Key attributes of the successful applicant include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience with the full LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB and PHP) stack is essential
  • Version control systems such as SVN (Subversion) or GIT
  • Experience in a research environment would be desirable
  • Contributing to Open-Source projects
  • Experience with REDCap software would be desirable, but not essential
  • Enthusiasm and personal initiative to solve problems, a self-starter with ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to articulate new technologies and adapt them to existing systems
  • High level of prioritisation and organisation to manage a high volume of work and priorities effectively 
  • Strong organisational, time-management and communication skills
