The People and Culture (Human Resources) section’s purpose is to develop, advise and support University senior staff, managers and support employees on best people management and leadership practice through the development of employment strategy, policy, procedures and services that support the delivery of the University’s strategic goals, properly balancing the needs of the employees and the needs of the University.
Duties of the Role
To provide professional advice and guidance to managers and employees on employee relations issues, including sickness, disciplinary capability, grievance, appeals, etc. in line with relevant policies and procedures, current legislation, the ACAS code of practice and other professional standards.
In doing so, the post holder will be managing a varied caseload, including being involved in the implementation of structural changes.
To coach and support managers on adopting good HR practice by offering effective HR advice, supporting managers in investigations to help them gather evidence and provide effective evidence based statement of cases and hearing packs.
Support the University to resolve matters of conflict at the earliest opportunity and ensure effective case management in association with University process.
Support project work as appropriate and advise on job descriptions and associated grading issues and participate in HERA job evaluations.
Skills and qualifications required
The post holder will need to have a degree or equivalent level qualification or experience, Chartered membership of CIPD or equivalent professional qualification is also essential.
A significant experience of working in generalist operational HR role for a medium to large scale organisation, with a sound understanding and knowledge of current UK and EU employment legislation and good practice.
It is important to have the experience of advising senior managers and have worked with trade unions on difficult issues.
The post holder should have excellent oral and written communication skills, listening skills, organisational skills and demonstrate use of initiative and problem solving skills. In addition, they must be confident in making decisions, influential, and have the ability to create strong relationships with key colleagues.
