This is an excellent opportunity to join the UK's National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) at Newcastle University, to play a strategic role in leading and developing the Centre's technical operation to enable the Centre to improve productivity through data by transferring ‘in demand' data science skills into UK organisations.
NICD has been established to address the data skills gap in the UK that will enable organisations to innovate through data. It delivers a flexible rolling programme of collaborative projects that focus on a specific business challenge or opportunity and transfers practical data skills into the workforce. Using these new skills, organisations can make better, data driven decisions, optimising existing operations or launching new products and services.
You will be responsible for providing overall leadership to the technical team, for managing client relationships, for ensuring project outcomes are delivered as well as contributing towards the development of the Centre's overall strategy. You will represent NICD as a senior leader to the Faculty, wider University and a wide range of external organisations.
You should be professionally qualified with a degree with significant relevant management and leadership experience and be able to show proven success in the innovation space.
You will act as a visible role model and must have experience of fostering a culture of trust and mutual respect to develop teamworking and leadership skills across a deeply technical group. You must be excited to challenge yourself and to continue to advance your own skill set as well as supporting the development of the technical team's skill set. Energy, enthusiasm, empathy and a positive ‘can-do' attitude are essential to the success of the role.
We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment. This position is available immediately and is offered on a full-time basis and we would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working. We appoint on merit and particularly welcome applications from groups that are currently underrepresented in Technical Professional Services such as LGBTQ+, black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues and individuals who identify as female.
