The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Information Representations for Wireless Systems. This Research Associate position will contribute to the Academic Research in Next Generation Information Networks (AR-NGIN) project within the Institute for Digital Communications at the University of Edinburgh. This role is UE07 and initially is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 6 months.

The opportunity:

This Research Assistant position contributes to the Academic Research in Next Generation Information Networks (AR-NGIN) project within the Institute for Digital Communications at the University of Edinburgh, which is in collaboration with colleagues from six leading UK universities in communications research.

This research position studies future technologies for wireless networks, with a particular focus on disaster and emergency scenarios. This project will explore how mobile devices can build up information about their environment, including their location, communication links with other devices in the local area and their overall performance. This information can then be processed by machine learning techniques to understand the system context and to aid decision making.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science or a clearly related area, with a focus on communications or machine learning techniques.
  • Track record of research in communications engineering or machine learning, with a specific focus on algorithm development and analysis or a closely related area.
  • Experience in delivering research project results in an academic context; i.e. submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journal and conferences in a relevant area.
  • Capable of working independently, exercising a high degree of initiative and demonstrating a pro-active and flexible approach to work.
