Job description

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in Statistics in the Department of Mathematics at King’s College London to work with Professor Steven Gilmour, Dr Kalliopi Mylona, Dr Davide Pigoli and Dr Vasiliki Koutra on a project entitled Multi-objective optimal design of experiments, a major research grant funded by the EPSRC (https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/T021624/1). The successful candidate will conduct research on the design of experiments with functional responses and/or predictors.

The Statistics group conducts research in design and analysis of experiments, time series and Markov chain Monte Carlo and sequential Monte Carlo methods. The permanent members of the group are Professor Steven Gilmour, Dr Maria Kalli, Dr Vasiliki Koutra, Dr Yu Luo, Dr Kalliopi Mylona, Dr Claudia Neves, Dr Nikolas Nüsken, Dr Davide Pigoli, Professor Michael Pitt and Dr Marina Riabiz.

Candidates should have the potential to carry out research which has high levels of originality, innovation and depth that may lead to significant impact on their field over the long term, have expertise related to the design of experiments and/or functional data analysis and have experience of programming in R.

The post is available as of 1 June 2023

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 17 months

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Work as a conscientious and committed member of the team in order to achieve the aims of the project.
  • Attend and, as appropriate, present research findings and papers at internal academic meetings and external professional conferences, and contribute to the internal and external visibility of the department.
  • Develop methodology for the design of experiments for functional response data
  • Participate in educational activities as appropriate to the stage of your career.
  • Write up research work for publication
  • Continually update knowledge and understanding in field
