The School wishes to make the appointment in the area of Political Science and Data Science. The area of specialiation is open, but the Department has a preference for applicants active in research on text analysis, applied machine learning, and/or data science in the social sciences. Proficiency in programming in Python and/or R is expected. Desirable skills also include quantitative text analysis, image processing, network analysis, and/or statistical forecasting. The preferred candidates must also be able to teach courses in substantive areas of politics (e.g., comparative politics, international relations, political communication) of interest to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The ideal candidates will have an approach to research that complements the Department of Political Science’s existing strengths in comparative and institutional analysis.
The normal teaching load for an Assistant Professor in the department would be four semester-length modules per year. A single semester-length module normally requires 88 hours of FTF teaching. Assistant professors are also expected to do a certain amount of postgraduate research supervision and to contribute to the administration of the programme and/or the department more generally.
