About the team/job

We are looking for a Human Resources Professional who is excited by the challenge of providing an excellent service in a stimulating and diverse international environment. EMBL is an intergovernmental research organization and its Human Resources unit is responsible for approx. 1700 staff from over 80 nations working at its 6 sites across Europe.

You will report to the Head of Compensation and Benefits and act as Officer-in-Charge in their absence.

As part of the team, you undertake a wide range of responsibilities including advice on interpretation and application of Staff Rules and Regulations as well as internal HR procedures and processes, payroll, conditions of service and administration of entitlements. You will coordinate activities within the team and act as the main focal point for the EMBL Pension Scheme. 

Your role

More specifically, you will:

  • Coordinate the work of the HR Officers within the team for effective service delivery and liaise very closely with the other HR teams
  • Provide authoritative advice on payroll and social security matters, interpretation and application of Staff Rules and Regulations
  • Keep abreast with social security developments that have an impact on EMBL members of personnel
  • Assist in assessing the level of skills, expertise and knowledge of the team members and coordinate training activities including in the use of ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
  • Serve as focal point for the EMBL pension scheme within Human Resources:
    • Advise on entitlements related to EMBL pension
    • Support the Secretary to the EMBL Pension Board in pension data requests and provide comprehensive pension reports and statistics to the actuaries and external auditors
  • Act as the interface between the EMBL Health Insurance Administrator and insured members when required
  • Monitor and regularly update information related to Staff Rules and Regulations on the HR Intranet Page
  • Oversee audits and compliances related to HR:
    • Prepare and coordinate responses to queries and recommendations from internal and external auditors including submissions to relevant parties
    • Monitor third-party contracts performance, invoice submissions and certification
  • Contribute to establishing transparency and consistency in the interpretation, application, implementation and administration of EMBL Staff Rules and Regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines and acts as appropriate on identified issues arising during operations
  • Participate in HR working groups and/or projects as required
  • Perform any other job-related activity required to achieve the goals and objectives of the team

You have

We are looking for a motivated Human Resources professional who can demonstrate credibility and the ability to develop strong relationships. As our ideal candidate, you will have advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in Human Resources Management, Public or Business Administration, with proven relevant HR experience in similar areas of responsibility. In-depth knowledge of payroll processes and procedures, understanding of and experience with ERP systems, significant experience in interpretation of Staff Rules and Regulations with thorough understanding of their application and knowledge of pension schemes principles is required.
