Applications are invited for a Senior Research Associate for the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD). The successful candidate will pursue high-quality research at the intersection of digital issues in humanitarian action. These could include a focus on cybersecurity, law, policy, or human rights. The successful candidate will work independently at the intersection of research and application, working to further knowledge in this area, identifying new challenges as they emerge and developing guidance and learning opportunities to equip the humanitarian sector with the tools necessary to navigate these challenges. The appointee is either already established as an independent researcher or will be encouraged to use this position as an avenue to develop as an independent researcher.
The Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD) is the first node in a planned international network of academic centres established to rebalance power and restore agency in a world dominated by digital platforms. MCTD is hosted within (CRASSH) and is supported by the Frontier Tech initiative
Applicants must have been awarded a PhD in a relevant specialist area, including but not limited to Politics, Digital Media Studies, Cybersecurity, or Law. Candidates with relevant experience working in the fields of humanitarian organisations, international or human rights law, or cybersecurity are highly desired.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance. The position is funded through the support of the ICRC Data Protection Office and of the ICRC Delegation for Cyberspace in Luxembourg.
